Stokes County

  • In April 2009, CISFC expanded their services to include Stokes County. Since that time, we have been successful in offering programs and services to students in the county.
  • Southeastern Stokes Middle School afterschool program: The 21st Century Learning Center offered the after school program beginning in September 2009. Our first year, we had over 45 students enrolled with more than 79 students enrolled this year. In its third year, we will begin the afterschool program on October 1, 2011.
  • Since the beginning, we have assisted more than 400 students with school supplies.
  • In partnership with the NC Cooperative extension, students from South Stokes High School's Horticulture class and students from the afterschool program, "The Helping Hands Community Garden" was created. The students planned and implemented their ideas to create a garden that would harvest crops to be given to the local Outreach Ministry and Soup Kitchen. This idea has spawned into other ideas from the students, such as building a garden at the high school for those students with disabilities, so that they may also be part of the garden. This was made possible through partnership with Learn & Serve as well as Brita Eco Challenge and Miracle Grow
  • We began a Youth Council with students selected from Southeastern Middle School. It consists of 8 students that exhibit leardership ability. We have educated them as to how to hold meetings, selected officers and have began our first project within the community. At this time, the council is working on a presentation to their principal to begin a quality recycling program within their school. The program was supported through a grant from the Bill Johnson Trust
  • In February of 2011, CISFC partnered with the Walnut Cove Backpack Advisory Board to begin a Backpack Buddy Program. With this program, we serve two elementary schools in Walnut-Cove area. Currently, there are 30 students enrolled in the program.
  • The elink Youth Services program has partnered with CISFC. We have students from the program that assist with marketing and fundraising as well as high school students assisting as tutors in the afterschool program.
  • We will begin offering a program to students at South Stokes High School in October 2011. This program will be tailored to fit each grade level. Opportunities such as job shadowing, career development, and college tours will be offered in an after school setting.
  • Each year we send 10 Stokes Middle School students to Camp Challenge for a week long summer camp. This camp is a week of fun and fellowship as well as an opportunity for students to complete a financial literacy currculum
  • Beyond the mentioned programs, we also have sight for Students. This program assist students with both eye exams as well as glasses if needed.

CISFC will be in the Children's Section of Stokes Stomp selling snow cones .
